Caraorman
Its name, Caraorman, means „Black Forest” in Turkish, adding a layer of mystery to this destination. As one of the northernmost subtropical forests in Europe, alongside Letea, Caraorman is an ecological wonder, an oasis of wilderness and beauty in the heart of the Danube Delta.
Caraorman Forest, often compared to its sister, Letea Forest, is a realm where nature and legend magically intertwine. This forest is a living spectacle, with wild horses running free amongst the trees, creating an unforgettable image. The surprises in Caraorman are many, including impressive ancient oaks, of which a venerable one, over 400-500 years old, is the pride of the forest and a jewel in the UNESCO heritage.
This natural area stretches across the heart of Tulcea County, more precisely in the north-centre of the Danube Delta, south of the Sulina Branch. Situated near the village of Caraorman, this place represents a point of ecological and geographic interest in the region, offering an impressive and diverse natural landscape characteristic of the Delta. A space where nature displays its beauty and diversity, this is a perfect place for exploring and appreciating the fantastic landscapes of the Danube Delta.
